Building Strong Foundations: The Ladders Program Communication Workshop

Ladders Program Participants gather for Communication Soft Skills Workshop.

By: Avé Mullen

ATLANTA, GA – The most recent Ladders Program workshop focused on the development and importance of effective communication skills.

The Ladders communications workshop covered skills for everyday encounters, common pitfalls, and professional marketing techniques. Participants were also provided insights into the significance of strategic communication to their home life and future careers.

Soft skills workshops are one way the Ladders Program supports individuals aged 16 to 24 as they transition from the justice system and reintegrate into society by making meaningful contributions at work and at home.

The yearlong program also includes career development, intensive case management, vocational training, and job placement. Ladders workshops equip participants with essential skills for workforce readiness.

Social Work Specialist William Felder guided participants through real-life scenarios on how to incorporate effective communication strategies to achieve their goals.” They gained valuable insights into teamwork and unity," Felder said, "and they enthusiastically engaged in the activities, combining enjoyment with healthy competition."

GPDC Customer Service expert Vera Moore led open discussions prompting participants to reflect on their aspirations and fears. Topics ranged from their biggest dreams to pet peeves. An introspective exercise provided time for sharing and understanding the perspectives of others.

“Seeing their youthful expressions served as a reminder of the work that lies ahead, and I'm appreciative for the opportunity to have spoken with them,” Moore said.
